補習校で経験を積んだ教員達と保護者の方々が、ホーンズビー地区に、非営利団体のコミュニティランゲージスクールを、就学年齢の生徒に日本語、日本文化の習得の機会を提供することを目的に設立しました。設立当初の借用校から移転し、現在はソーンリー地区に開校しています。オーストラリア政府の多文化理解や、言語習得による生徒の利益は、国の利益、発展、平和な社会づくりにつながるとされる理解の下、国際人として豊かな人間性を養い、教養ある多文化社会の一員として成長するための一助となる様に願って設立されました。
The school was originally established by teachers who experienced in Japanese supplementary schools and parents as a non-profit community language school with the aim of providing school-aged students in the Hornsby area the opportunity to learn Japanese language and culture. Initially the school rented the facility of a local school in the Hornsby area, but we have since moved and are now operating in Thornleigh.
The Australian government promotes a multicultural society and supports school students to learn and use their community language, recognising that this contributes to the nation’s prosperity, development, and social cohesion. The school was established aiming to support students in developing a rich sense of humanity as global citizens and in growing into cultured members of a multicultural society.
本校は、NSW州教育省のコミュニティランゲージスクールプログラムの規定に従った、非営利団体のコミュニティランゲージスクールです。また、日本政府の補習授業校として指定も受けています。そのためNSW州教育省、外務省に補助金を申請しています。
The school is a non-profit community language school that operates in accordance with the NSW Department of Education's Community Language School Program. It is also a supplementary school recognised by the Japanese government. The school applies for the NSW government’s grant and the grants by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
年会費、入学金、授業料、補助金、ファンドレイジングによる収入が学校の運営資金となります。
The school’s operations are funded by the annual membership fees, enrollment fees, tuition fees, government grants and profit from fundraising activities.

日本語で行われる授業を理解できる程度の日本語力のあるキンディーから12年生までのシドニー在住の就学児童が対象です。ご事情により現地校での就学を1年遅らせたお子様(未就学児童)は、政府からの助成金対象外となるため、補填金をご負担いただきます（料金表参照）。
School-aged children from Kindy to Year 12 residing in Sydney, who have sufficient Japanese proficiency to understand classes conducted in Japanese, are eligible for application. The NSW government’s grant is only available for children enrolled in a local school. A child not enrolled yet in a local school will incur an additional fee. Refer to the fee schedule.
キンディークラスから小学校3年生までの学年別クラスのほか、高学年以上は人数に合わせたクラス編成になっています。アットホームな環境で、楽しく学習するために１クラス15人以下のクラス編成の形を取っています。また、アシスタントの先生、ボランティアの保護者の方々に授業の補助をしていただくこともあります。
Classes are grade-specific for Kindy to Year3. For higher grades, some classes are combined according to the number of students. We have adopted a class size of 15 students or fewer to provide a fun and homely learning environment. Assistant teachers and volunteer parents may provide support teaching in the classrooms.
４学期制で開始時期はNSW州の公立校と同様です。授業は毎週土曜日に行い、年間で35回以上となります。借用校の都合や不測の事態で臨時休校となることや、多少の変更が生じる場合もあります。
The school operations follow the NSW’s public school terms. Classes are held every Saturday during the school term with a minimum of 35 classes per year. Please note that temporary closures or schedule changes may occur due to the availability of the rented school premise or unforeseen circumstances.

入学した生徒の保護者は、入学と同時に非営利団体のコミュ二ティーランゲージスクールであるホーンズビー日本語学校の会員となります。保護者は学校の運営に積極的に協力していただき、コミッティーが召集する年次総会や臨時総会へ出席し、会員としての意見を反映していきます。お手伝いの数と種類、振り分けは、お互い無理のないように公平に決定していきます。
When a student is enrolled, their parent/guardian automatically becomes a member of Hornsby Japanese School. Parents are expected to actively support the school's operations, attend and contribute their opinions in the annual general meeting and special general meetings when the committee convenes. The amount and frequency of volunteer work are to be decided fairly,
ensuring they are manageable for everyone.
コミュニティランゲージスクールプログラムの規定により、代表、パブリックオフィサーを含むコミッティーは３名以上で構成され、保護者と教員の中から毎年選出されます。任期は１〜３年間です。
The committee must consist of a minimum of three members, including a President and a Public Officer, in order to comply with the Community Language School Program guideline. The committee members are selected from among the parents every year and the term of the service ranges from one to three years.

小学校の学年別クラスでは、日本の国語の教科書を使用するほか、ドリルを使用します。中級、上級、ハイスクールクラスでは各クラスのレベルに応じた教材も準備します。
Official Japanese class textbooks in Japan will be used in In the Year1- Year3 classes as well as workbooks. Materials tailored to each class level will be provided for combined classes above Year 4.
